Commander’s Corner
I’d like to first congratulate the newly elected/appointed Detachment Officers for the 2024-2025 Legion year. I am looking forward to working with all of you and all the members of the Detachment to make it a very successful year.
While we work on the different programs of the American Legion, there are three I will make my priorities. “BE THE ONE,” which is the program that National has as the main one for the American Legion, dealing with preventing veteran suicide. Next is Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation (VA&R). As a retired Marine, this means a lot to me and fundraising for this program will help out veterans tremendously. The third program is the Child Welfare Foundation (CWF). I believe this program not only helps the children now, but helps us all as our future leaders are developed along the right track.
I am truly honored to be the Detachment Commander, and will do everything within my power to make each and every one of you proud to be a Son of the American Legion. At our recent convention our guest of honor was the National Commander J. R. Hall. In his address to the membership, he asked a question to all of us “Who is your Why?”- meaning ‘Why” are you part of the Sons of the American Legion? Who is the person that you joined the “Sons” for? Mine is my father who served in the Air Force from 1950-1956, and he is who I honor be being a member of this great organization. So, I ask you “Who is YOUR why?”
For God & Country,
Tim Saucedo
